One thing I’ve always noticed is that a lot of people try to be on every single social media platform when it comes to their business. They wholeheartedly believe that it’s the only way to be successful.
But here’s the cold, hard truth:
You absolutely without a doubt do NOT have to be on every platform.
In fact, it’s best that you AREN’T trying to be present everywhere. Let me explain why…
The thing with trying to be on several platforms at once is that you have to spread your time and energy so thin between them all. Essentially, you can’t focus 100% of your energy in them all. So if you’re having a hard time figuring out which ones to focus on, I’ve got some tips for you…
- Be where your customers are. Your ideal customers are NOT everywhere. So if your customers are predominantly present on Facebook and Instagram, forget about your Twitter and Pinterest. Stop giving 25% to each of those 4 platforms and instead, split the 100% between those top two money makers.
- Organize your posts. Now that you know which platforms to tackle, get a plan going. Figure out your topics and organize them so that you are present at least 3 times a week.
- Take a break. Remember that you gotta put yourself first. So give yourself a break every few hours. Take a walk, a nap, a run, a lunch, whatever makes you breathe and feel more relaxed- do it. It’ll refresh your energy and you’ll be more productive than before.
Take these tips and find the 1 or 2 platforms YOUR customers are. If you aren’t sure who your customers even are, then it’s time for you to sit down and get CLEAR on who the type of people you want to work with are.
What do they do? What do they look like? Where do they live? Do they have children? What problems are they experiencing?
Get as many details as you can. Soon you’ll be able to figure out where these exact types of people like to be on and that will make your platform decision that much easier.
