One Thing You Should Stop Doing on Social Media Immediately
Oh boy ladies. Do I have a hot take for you today…
For the past month or so, I’ve been seeing posts all over my feed BEGGING people to stop doing this one thing…
And I am 100% with them.
Now, I thought that this had been addressed, but apparently it needs to be said again.
QUIT FRIENDING PEOPLE AND IMMEDIATELY ASKING THEM TO JOIN YOUR GROUP OR LIKE YOUR PAGE.
I can’t even tell you how many posts I’ve seen recently with people saying, “if you do this to me I will unfriend you.”
And I couldn’t agree more.
Here’s why:
First of all, it’s rude.
Generally speaking, you don’t know this person. And that means that you don’t know if this person is going to even have any interest in what you’re doing.
You haven’t even talked to them.
And more importantly, you haven’t connected with them at all.
You’re completely skipping the connection part, which is what marketing is all about
I’m not saying that you shouldn’t be adding people on Facebook.
There is nothing wrong with adding people. I love adding people on Facebook because it expands my networks and I’ve met some really awesome people that way.
But you have to make a connection.
Especially if you want to invite them to be any part of your business.
The only thing you accomplish by sending out random mass invites is annoying your friends list.
You might get a few people who will like and join, but they’re most likely not going to be your ideal people.
One, because you don’t know them at all and you’re just adding people willy nilly.
And two, they probably accept every invite that comes along and they’re in EVERYTHING.
They don’t have the time (or interest) to really participate and all you end up with is a lower engagement rate.
So what should you do instead?
Network for real.
Talk to people. Send messages. Make a connection. Get to know your friends list.
THEN if they show interest or you think that your group or page would be a great fit ASK them if they’d like to be invited.
It’s time to stop spamming people.
You’re only hurting yourself and your business.
Bottom line.
Rant over.
