What Should You Do If Someone Unsubscribes From Your List?

You probably see it all the time – people bragging about their lists. 

They have hundreds of thousands of people and it’s all quite impressive. All these subscribers eagerly waiting for them to share some new tips and tricks. 

But what happens when someone unsubscribes from your list? 

Panic? Cry? Throw in the towel?

Actually, the first thing you should do when someone voluntarily leaves your list is to CELEBRATE. And here’s why…


As I mentioned earlier, people brag about how big their lists are, but here’s the thing…

A lot of their subscribers are sitting idle. 

They don’t contribute to their sales or their stats. In fact, they ruin your ability to accurately track your success. 

Hell, you gotta pay for people to be on your list, so how annoying is it to know that you’re paying for literally ZERO action from some?

If that hasn’t convinced you to celebrate, here are some more pros to their departure:

  1. Campaigns are more effective if they are sent to those who act. 

  2. Your statistics will reflect the actions of people who ARE actively engaging with your information.

  3. The bigger the list, the smaller the open rates will be.

  4. Again, stop wasting your money on those who don’t care.

  5. If you notice your list is huge and people aren’t unsubscribing, purge your list. Get rid of those who haven’t opened your emails in over 6 months. If they want to come back, they will.

So when someone leaves on their own, be HAPPY. They are making it easier for you. They are giving your numbers the opportunity to be more accurate and giving you the opportunity to fine tune your actions!
